1) Focus on the Basics

Most common but most ignored thing while learning. Many students or beginners often make this mistake of skipping the fundamental chapters or go too fast thinking the topics to be too easy to give time but end up forgetting what they just learnt. Having a good grasp on the basics or fundamentals is very crucial to understand complex concepts otherwise you will fail to understand and will eventually return back to learn basics again so its a good practice to do it at the very beginning. Give proper time to learn basics, practice as many problems as you can till you feel confident about that particular topic and then move to the next concept. This will save your lot of time in future.

2) Learn by doing

Common mistake done by beginners is that they just go on reading books or looking at the sample code without practicing it at all. It's easy to read about variables, loops, arrays, switch case etc but you won't learn until you code by hands. Learn to always play with the code while learning. Not just practice what's written in the book, but also try to make changes to see what different results you are getting, play with the code according to your will, see what changes you can make, see what errors are you facing, see where have you done the mistake, rectify it, understand the logic, this is how you learn programming.
